Paul Keating on John Howard

This was a pretty fair summation of my own feelings toward John Howard:

Divisive leader who squandered Australia’s hopes – National – smh.com.au

Recent Movies

  • This is England – great, strong film about England in the early ’80s under the Thatcher government. It is powerful but sensitive, and Thomas Turgoose as the young Shaun is amazing. Well shot and with a good soundtrack. Explores the fine line between mateship and mob mentality.
  • Entourage – have watched lots and lots and lots of this in Europe. Great for odd moments of the day.
  • Control – possibly the movie of the year for me.  Brilliant film with a delicate portrayal of a tragic figure of modern music.  The live scenes in this film are amazing.  Sam Riley and Samantha Morton both put in stellar performances.
  • A Mighty Heart – pretty reasonable film on Daniel and Marianne Pearl and the ordeal that leads to Daniels murder at the hand of terrorists.  Angelina Jolie does a good job (the curly hair made me forget it was her), maybe she’ll even win an Oscar?
  • Goal – mostly silly and contrived film about Santiagao Munez’s rise from LA to the Premier League at Newcastle United.  Average but fun and enjoyable.
