More Rugby Fiascos

After naming Robbie Deans as coach, the ARU has continued its recent crazy form by cancelling the ARC after only one season!

I did not have the chance to watch the mid-tier ARC this year, but it surprises me that they would have even scheduled it for one year if they thought there was even a slight chance it would not survive for at least three.  Even the Singapore Slingers entry into the NBL was predicated on the ability to last several years.

They cite the amount of money it lost this year, which was a blow out of over 100% — it was managed so poorly that they lost double what they expected!

Another disaster in Australian Rugby — when will they get their act together?

Wise words about life

A truly moving motivational speech from the late Jimmy V:

Wallabies Travesty

This is a travesty and I refuse to support the Wallabies till an Australian is back in charge.

Deans is the new Wallabies coach – rugbyheaven07.com.au

Think.  There are only two possibilities:

1. We still stink

2. We get really good — and then have to listen to Kiwi’s explain that it’s because we don’t know how to play football.

I’d rather play poorly with a passionate Aussie at the helm (like, say Alan Jones).  I’m over it!

Great stairs/shelves

like the wave shape and the brilliant functional/form mix

We like that it is a single unit and it gets wider at both the bottom and top of the stairs (aiding in stability and aesthetics!). The project comes from the Belgian site of Voet-Theuns Architecture. Painted, this could be an even more attractive piece in a small studio apartment with a lofted sleeping area. Via: Materialicio.us

Ben Casnocha: What You Know, What You Don’t Know, What You Think

Self reminder about this good bit of clarity:

Ben Casnocha: The Blog: What You Know, What You Don’t Know, What You Think

” ‘Look, I have got a rule,’ ” he said General Powell told him. ” ‘As an intelligence officer, your responsibility is to tell me what you know. Tell me what you don’t know. Then you’re allowed to tell me what you think. But you always keep those three separated.’ “

Anfernee Hardaway used to be really good! Check out this clip, and particularly the bits where he takes it to Jordan.

Dunleavy v Jackson

So, who got the best of this trade huh? Both Jackson and Dunleavy seem to have found their groove after their moves.

WordPress won’t let me upload pictures right now, but a little look at their stats show a remarkable similarity in their productivity — and both are having career best years.  Maybe Dunleavy is finally playing up to his 3rd overall pick pedigree.

And in Milwaukee — they continue to live and die by their guards, even while Yi, Bogut and Villanueva rot on the inside.  Pass the ball inside for once!

Ricky “Hitman” Hatton v Pretty Boy Floyd

Went to the Aussie Rules Social Club in the cross to watch Ricky the Hitman Hatton take on Pretty Boy Floyd Money Mayweather in Las Vegas.  There was a big crowd of about 300-400 I’d guess on hand to catch the satellite broadcast, and we had a good crew of about 10.  Good fun, but it was a shame that we lost the satellite feed for two crucial rounds (7 & 8).  Our only update was from a geezer speaking to his mates in England (“May-feather is twatting him”).  Still, not a bad afternoon of entertainment for a Sunday.

Stanmore

Ferret

So, a month into living in Stanmore, and we’re loving it. We’ve been down to Marrickville for only one meal so far, and Borsellini Brothers in Petersham is already a favourite for fresh fruit and vegetables.  We’ve just sold our old dining table on eBay which is a little sad, but it was time for it to go.  Also, there’re heaps of kooky people around Stanmore/Enmore/Newtown, which makes it a lot of fun.
